The Ultimate Morning Routine for Mental, Emotional, and Physical Health

Creating a daily habit of practicing a morning routine will add tremendous value to your overall health. If done right you will be calmer, happier, more focused, and more energized throughout the day. 

But what is an ideal morning routine?

We've compiled some of the world's most successful, happy, healthy, and impactful people's morning routines to create the ultimate routine. 

By making a habit of just a few of these routines you'll see dramatic improvement in your life.

The most important aspect to all of this is you must wake up an hour before you have any other obligations. You must dedicate an hour every morning to focus solely on improving yourself. 

Here's what you'll do:

1.) Make Your Bed

- By waking up and immediately accomplishing this simple task you will feel a sense of pride and it will encourage you to keep accomplishing tasks throughout the day. At the end of the day, no matter how bad it was, you'll come home to your accomplishment. This is a psychological win for you and it's contagious. 

2.) Meditate

- Meditation has a tremendous impact on your mood and focus. By simply spending 10 minutes a day doing nothing but sitting and focusing on your breathing you will see massive improvements on your mood throughout the day. If you've never meditated before, try downloading the Headspace app on your phone. This is a daily guided meditation that is made fun and simple for you to get your breathing time.  All you need to do is dedicate ten minutes every morning of being completely focused on meditation. The benefits are extraordinary. 

3.) Do 10 Pushups or Pull-ups 

- This is not meant to be a tough workout, just a way to prime your body and get your blood flowing. By doing this simple routine you will see improvements on your mood and less mental chatter. Follow this up by taking a purely cold shower for 30 to 60 seconds.

4.) Morning Journal 

- Start your journaling by writing down three things you are grateful for, three things that would make today great, and three "I am" affirmations (e.g. I am strong, I am smart, I am adaptable) After that spend five minutes writing down whatever is on your mind. By writing it down it allows you to take it out of your mind. Since you wrote it down you don't feel as if you have to constantly think about it or worry about it. You may even think of a solution to the problem while you're writing it.

For the time you have remaining before your first obligation you can spend it eating a nice meal, reading a book, or preparing for your next meeting. Just know that first hour in your day is for you. Don't short yourself. 

There's a popular saying that "nothing good happens after midnight"  

Well, a popular business mentor likes to say "nothing good happens after 11am."

By developing a habit of practicing this morning routine, you will be healthier, happier, more energized, and more focused throughout your day.
